I have several past Scentsy consultants coming back into the Scentsy world this month, and the thing they all keep saying to me is, “everything has changed so much!”
And they’re absolutely right. This year will be my 10th year as a Scentsy consultant, and the one thing I can say you can always expect in this business is for it to change. Of course you can expect the product line to change from season to season, but you may not expect everything else to change so much.
The biggest changes come from the way our world is ever changing. Technology has played a major role in being able to reach more people and grow worldwide businesses. I had Facebook 10 years ago, but back then you could only have an account if you had a college email address. Now everyone from my grandma, to my step-dad, to my relatives in Italy have a Facebook account, and that has definitely changed the way we communicate and share as consultants.
If you’ve been out of the direct sales game for a while, and you are planning on getting back in, just know that things probably look different than they did before.
If you’re a current consultant and you’re doing things the way you’ve always done them because that’s the way you’ve always done things, it may be time to change things up.
When I started as a Scentsy consultant 9 years ago, home parties, events, and internet ads were the biggest ways to grow your business. Now, the ways to grow your business are nearly impossible to list. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, on the go parties, trunk shows, blogging, external websites, and Snapchat are just a few examples of the numerous ways you can grow a successful business these days. And with the internet it’s easier than ever to grow international teams. Scentsy allows you to grow teams in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Spain, France, Australia, and New Zealand.
One thing you can be sure of as you run your business is that if it hasn’t changed much yet, it definitely will. And while change can sound scary, when embraced, it can make for a flourishing and successful business.
The most profitable consultants are those who are adaptive to the changing times. Not only do they find themselves more successful but the work they do stays exciting and engaging.
Change is a beautiful thing. Embrace it, move with it, and know that your business won’t be boring. There will always be something new and exciting to engage in.
What has changed about your business? Or if nothing has changed, what are you hoping to change soon?
