Ya’ll I’m a book nerd through and through. Although, I think maybe these days it’s actually cool to read books, so that would make me the opposite of a nerd. I’m not sure.
Anywho….I love hearing about what other people are reading (literally like one of the most talked about subjects on my marco polo chats and texts), and I love to tell people what I am reading.
These will be short and sweet reviews. Basically would I recommend the books I’ve been reading or not?
January’s Reads:
1. The Story Collector by Evie Woods
2. Definitely Better Now by Ava Robinson
3. The People We Keep by Allison Larkin
4. Advika and the Hollywood Wives by Kirthana Ramisetti
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K Rowling
6. In a Jam by Kate Canterbary
7. Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See
8. Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
9. Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

The Story Collector was my second read by Evie Woods, and I loved it. What masquerades as a sweet story about a search for fairies both in the past and the present is in reality a beautifully crafted lesson about grief.

Definitely Better now is a story of Emma’s life 1 year sober and beyond. Watching her learn how to navigate family and romantic relationships sans alcohol while feeling all the feels is enlightening.

The People We Keep was probably my favorite read from January. Okay it was definitely my favorite read!
It’s a beautiful coming of age story that will stick with me for a very long time.

Advika and the Hollywood Wives was an okay for me. I did enjoy Advika’s search for answers in Julian’s past relationships.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a YES. Always. I’ve read the Harry Potter series to all my kiddos, and Wyatt and Lucy and I finished this one last month. If you’ve been living under a rock, this is a beautiful story about the power of the sacrifice of love.

In a Jam is a long but good romance with lovable and relatable characters, a thriving farm business in a small town and a tulip farm. Plus a cute kindergartner obsessed with pirates. What’s not to love?!
(this is not a closed door romance)

Lady Tan’s Circle of Women was my 2nd fave of the month! It was a slow start for me, but it’s an utterly fascinating read that chronicles the life of one of China’s 1st female doctors in the 15th century.

Onyx Storm did not disappoint! I loved the 1st 2 in this series so of course I had to dive right back in. Violet and Zaden’s relationship can be a little over the top at times, but I loved the adventure and intrigue in this one.

Butcher and Blackbird. Okay how do I even talk about this one. It was almost a DNF for me, but I listened to the audio version, and it is by far one of the best audios I’ve ever listened to. It is not a dramatization. Even though it was too gory, graphic, and dirty for me, I couldn’t stop listening.
Didn’t really like it. π«£
Wouldn’t recommend. π
(except the audio is impressive!)
